Book of 1 John: You can be certain that you have eternal life when you are abiding in God, and He in you.

Chapter 4  The evidence of a person’s true abiding place is:
1) his confession of Christ, and           (v.1-3, 14-15)
2) his love for others.                             (v.7-8, 9-12, 13, 16-18, 19-21)

v.1-3   Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, is of God.

v.4-6   God enables His children to discern truth from error and reject error, but those of the world reject the truth.

v.7-8   Everyone who loves is born of God, for God is love.

v.9-12 Loving one another is the desired outcome of the high price that God paid to take away our sins, and it shows that He abides in us.

v.13  Loving others also shows that we have the Holy Spirit, because love is a fruit that He produces in us.

v.14-15  Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the world, God abides in him, and he in God.

v.16-18  The love that we express in this world helps us to be bold in the day of judgment—because we are abiding in God and He in us, we have nothing to fear.

v.19-21  The result of God’s love for us was our love for Him, and it should result in our love for our brother.
