Hope Rekindled

by Katy Kauffman

In honor of Paige Snedeker and her will to live, love, and serve God

Here I am, on the edge of despair.

I look hard for hope, but see none there.

Darkness grows thicker with each hour.

I look for one green leaf, one flower.

“Is this my lot?” I cry from within.

Where is hope in this land so barren?

I can’t change this poor body of mine.

Will my future still grow worse with time?

“Look to Me,” a voice speaks to my soul.

“Hope is yet small now, but it can grow.

Your body may be broken, it’s true.

But strong can be the spirit in you.

“Filled with My love,” His gentle voice speaks.

“You will find your hope and lasting peace.

Close to My heart, you will find new grace.

Fears will flee, and faith will take their place.

“Follow Me into the light, Dear One.

Open your eyes to the morning sun.

Each day will bring new joys and purpose.

Helping others will be your focus.

“Share with them what you’re learning with Me.

I can make them whole and set them free.

Their spirits can be renewed each day.

I’ll be ‘enough’ if in Me they’ll stay.

“You’ve surely seen Me do it before,

So trust Me now deep down in your core.

Where faith is, I will cause hope to spring,

And new perseverance I will bring.”

I now leave the darkness behind me.

I believe His word with certainty.

My hand takes His, hope dawns in my heart.

My Lord will help me, I’ll do my part.

“Lord, use my life to bring You glory.

Take Your pen, continue my story

Of Your grace and power in my soul,

Your ability to make me whole.

“My body is yet broken, I’m sure.

One day at last they may find the cure.

But You make my soul strong within me.

Your hope now kindles my victory.”

In the day when I cried out, You answered me,

and made me bold with strength in my soul.

Psalm 138:3 NKJV
