A Poem of Victory

by Katy Kauffman

My heart is full. I’ve just returned home after attending the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. This was my eleventh time to attend and second time to teach. It’s my home away from home, a lifeline each year. The refreshment of being with other writers and gaining new strength on the mountain is an event I cherish.

So today, in lieu of a Bible study devotion, I’d like to share with you a poem. Next month, I will continue our series of Sustaining Life’s Spiritual Victories. Guest bloggers will join me in the weeks to come as we talk about how to sustain a victory that we have won with God’s help. Visit “A Smart Heart” to see our last post in the series and a list of our devotions so far. Today’s poems is one of my favorites, and one I need to remember. I pray it blesses you.

The Confession
by Katy Kauffman

In the stillness of the night You hear my cry

You know the battle in my soul

I give the fight all I have and try

To bear the rigorous toll

You embrace me in my weakest moment

You remind me of Your great love

In my daily predicament

I know I have help from up above

In my heart You calm the raging sea

Your commanding voice says, “Peace, be still”

The fears and anxieties immediately flee

With rest and peace my heart does fill

I don’t know if healing will come this side of glory

I don’t know how hard the journey will be

But I know You write my story

Every page becomes a testimony

Shine Your light through my brokenness

Let all see Your grace and truth

Let them see You haven’t forsaken me

The great good You’re doing is the proof

For You turn my sorrow into blessing

You turn my weakness into power

Your grace I will keep confessing

You are my safe and strong tower

Every day I will confess Your goodness

Every night I will remember Your love

Show me Your forever faithfulness

I will show You my forever love

If you were to declare your own confession about who God is and what He has done in your life, what would it be? Say it as a prayer in your heart, and leave a comment capturing something about it. Together we can confess that God is enough for every situation and He knows how to rescue us no matter the circumstances.

What a beautiful declaration of God’s faithfulness, Katy. Philippians 1:6 reminds me that “He who began the good work in me will complete it.” He teaches; I obey. He leads; I follow. He is the Teacher who ensures I grow in grace.
