Where Can You “Refresh” Your Soul?

by Katy Kauffman

When the cases of COVID-19 keep climbing. When nothing in your day seems to be working. When you need cool relief in the middle of a hot summer. That’s when we need some soul-satisfying refreshment, and that’s what God’s Word does for our hearts.

When life creates a thirst within us for the deep things of God, He answers our need with Himself and Scripture. When we need to hear from our heavenly Father, He can speak to us directly, through His Word, through sermons, and through those who love Him. Some of these people write for our magazine, Refresh.

The mission of Refresh is to connect God’s Word to life today. If you’ve never read it, I’d like to share five reasons to start, and if you have read it or contributed to it, I hope you consider sharing this post with friends who may need some refreshment.

5 Benefits of Reading Refresh Bible Study Magazine

  1. Refresh your heart with Scripture and its application to today.

For the past five years, Refresh has been a source of articles, devotions, Bible studies, short stories, and poetry. The contributions include at least one Bible verse, and they are full of encouragement, insights, how-to’s, strategies for life today, and more. Let God’s truths and promises soak into your heart and refresh your joy and peace.

  1. Renew your focus on God in the midst of a chaotic world.

If the world gets turned upside down with a pandemic or anything else, we still have God to turn to—the one, true Almighty God. He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), and He knows what we need and when we need it (Matthew 6:8, 30-32). The articles in Refresh usually focus on some aspect of God’s character and goodness, and encourage us to trust Him and make a difference for His kingdom.

  1. Discuss the stories and principles in the articles with your friends.

Refresh shares stories that can serve as great talking points with friends who may need some encouragement or who haven’t believed in Jesus yet. These stories can be conversation starters that lead to sharing practical insights and relevant truths for life today. The principles from God’s Word in the magazine may be exactly what someone you know needs to hear.

  1. Relate to other believers through our online Bible study.

Since our March Issue released, we have hosted a Bible study group on Zoom, and authors in that issue have read their articles and asked discussion questions. I’ve had so much fun meeting with the group week to week. And this Thursday from 7-8 pm EDT, we’ll discuss another article about how to sustain life’s victories. Email us at lighthousebiblestudies@hotmail.com for a link to join us!

Because our articles come with discussion questions, Refresh can serve as a free resource for churches and small groups to use. If you’re a part of a group that needs new resources, consider using our magazine for a weekly study that focuses on God and His Word.

  1. Receive strength for today and tomorrow.

I like to keep my phone’s supercharger close by. It charges my phone quickly, giving it power for all day long. When we stay connected to God and His Word, we have the strength we need for each day’s adventures and challenges, and we’re better prepared for tomorrow. May Refresh strengthen you for the work God has called you to do.
