Winning Spiritual Victories

Wherever you are in the world reading this, whatever your life may look like (if you’re a believer), we have something in common—we are a part of the same spiritual family and the same team. Each of us is involved in life’s constant struggle between good and evil, in a marathon race of adventures and challenges. Every generation has been called to loving God and knowing Him, to walking through life with Him, and to serving Him faithfully. Our generation is no different. Whatever spiritual battles we are facing, God helps us to win the victory and to make a difference in the world around us.

How does God help us in the struggles of the Christian life? ...

Scrapbook Cards in Bible Study

I have scrapbooked for almost ten years. I enjoy it as a stress reliever, as an excuse to be with friends, and as a creative outlet. The papers are pretty, the embellishments are snazzy, and the pictures I cherish are preserved for all time in meaningful ways. Until the tape runs out. Then I have to run to the scrapbook store (oh no!) and restrain myself to buy only tape. And maybe one more set of stickers.

A few years ago, my mom Beebe and I found a way to incorporate scrapbooking into our Bible study classes. It can take as little as five minutes of class time to do it. At the end of the class, we pass out little kits to each lady in the group, and inside are pre-cut papers, ribbon, and bling (sparkly stuff). As a group we put together the card which has a principle from the lesson printed on the top layer of paper.

An Arsenal for Victory - Introducing 2 Timothy: Winning the Victory

What songs do you like to listen to again and again? Is there a song you play when you’re feeling down? I have a couple of playlists on my computer that I play when I need a good pick-me-up song. The playlists include: By Your Side (Tenth Avenue North), Shout to the Lord (Darlene Zschech), The Prayer (Josh Groban and Angie Stone), and My Help Comes from the Lord (The Museum). These songs are a part of my musical “arsenal,” that I use to fight back thoughts of worry and feelings of depression. They remind me that God is great, I can trust Him, and He has a plan.

What about Scripture? Do you have a Scriptural arsenal that you use to defeat negative thoughts that Satan shoots through your mind? When fear threatens to stop you in your tracks, when doubts cause you to worry, when Satan tempts you to give up, what Scriptures do you run to?

I run to 2 Timothy. ...
