Spiritual Gifts

”But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7 NKJV).

You have probably heard of the spiritual gifts of teaching, leadership, encouragement, mercy, and so forth that are listed in Romans Ch. 12. First Corinthians 12:8-10 lists other ways that the Holy Spirit manifests His power through the children of God. Have you ever considered how these gifts benefit the church?

The Gifts:

v.8  the word of wisdom – applying knowledge to the situation at hand
v.8  the word of knowledge – declaring the right or true thing

Be Refreshed: Announcing a New Bible Study Magazine

“Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.” Isaiah 55:1, NKJV

Have you ever been so thirsty that you couldn’t think straight or do anything else but hunt for some water? I know how that feels. I carry a water bottle with me most everywhere I go because if an unrelenting thirst finds me, I have to quench it.

At times our souls desperately need to be refreshed with the Word of God. It is like water to our souls. The Bible quenches our thirst to know God better, it cleanses us from the daily stain of sin, and it nourishes our souls with renewed strength and vitality. We need God’s Word to thrive spiritually as much as we need water to survive physically.

So the Lighthouse Bible Studies team is pleased to announce the start of a new Bible study magazine called Refresh ...

Isaiah: Setting Things Right

THE UPGRADE

The surprise. Several years ago, my husband had a business conference in Florida that began on his birthday, so Katy and I went with him. We had reserved a room with two queen beds, but when we arrived at the hotel they told us the standard rooms were overbooked. The hotel gave us a free upgrade—all the way to the penthouse.

The room. The penthouse had floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the beach. The living room furnishings were lovely and inviting, like a home away from home. Dining chairs upholstered in turquoise fabric sat around a glass table that could accommodate six people comfortably. The kitchen was fully equipped. The bathrooms had TVs and telephones. Normally when the three of us ...

Build the House of God

In Ezra Ch. 6, the “house of God” (v.3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 16, 17, 22) was the temple, and it needed to be rebuilt because the Babylonians had destroyed it. Today the house of God is the church. Believers are its “living stones” (1 Peter 2:5 NKJV), and we “are being built together for a dwelling place of God” (Ephesians 2:22 NKJV).

Let’s apply the principles of this chapter to Christian authority in the church and to the building and completing of God’s “house” in present times. What should Godly authorities be doing in the church?

Ch. 6  Godly authorities see that the work of building God’s house is finished, all the way to the joy.

The book of Romans gives us certainty and peace—certainty of how God’s plan of salvation works, and peace when we see how the love and mercy of a righteous God has provided for our reconciliation to Him. Chapter 1 of this awesome book begins by identifying the barrier between God and man, and the weapon that can overcome it.

Romans - Be transformed: Understand how salvation and sanctification work,
and believe it (embrace it) for yourself.
(embrace it – live in accordance with it; act on it; let it change and enrich you)

In the Gospel of John, Jesus explained His identity, His mission on earth, and His relationship with believers. He also gives us invitations to believe in Him, to draw close to Him, and to serve Him. Scripture closes this book of great insights into the person of Christ and our relationship with Him, with Chapter 21. What are the last things that Jesus emphasizes in this gospel?

John Ch. 21 Finish Jesus’ work.
