Breaking the Chains: Loosening the Grip of Fear

It stood tall and red in my dream. I backed away from the red monster and tried to get away, but the white room offered no way of escape—no doors, no windows. As my fear of the monster grew, he grew taller and scarier.

Then it hit me. “This is my dream. I don’t have to be scared of you!”

The moment I said that, he started shrinking till he was just a red puddle on the floor. I stood above him, amazed that I had been afraid of something so puny. My fear of him gave him power over me, but in reality—or in my dream—he was nothing more than a red blob.

The more power we give to fear, the taller and scarier it grows in our lives. The more we say yes to it, the tighter its grip on us becomes. But God didn’t intend for fear to be our reality—not the kind of fear that paralyzes us and keeps us from living life to the fullest with Him.
