Life’s Issues Have a Solution

Jumbled, confused, tied in knots, anxious, helpless, and overwhelmed. That’s how we can feel on the inside, as we navigate the circumstances and surprises of life.

Sometimes we just get TIRED—tired of trying, tired of rejection, tired of hitting a brick wall again and again.

Sometimes the heat of temptation gets turned up way past “simmer” to “boiling.” All we can think about is what we are NOT supposed to do. The wrong solution gets brighter and bolder, and good sense gets muffled or silenced.

Sometimes we need just one person to listen to us and empathize with what we are going through. We need one person to understand us, to be on our side all the time, and then everything would be so much better. If we had one person to love us unconditionally, to trust in, to talk to and confide in. Someone who can see things ...

Every time I study a book of the Bible, I find reasons to think it could be one of my favorites. But I think the Gospel of John is my favorite of all. It showcases the person and ministry of Jesus in ways that are unique, even compared to the other three gospels. John Ch. 4 shows us a glimpse of the heart of Jesus. He traveled to a well where He could talk to a woman who came that day to draw water, and He stayed to minister to the people of the town where she lived. The three sets of application statements (What does God want us to know, or to do?) or phrases show various perspectives on the chapter.

The word “believe” is in the Gospel of John more than any other book in the Bible, and “Believe in Jesus” is the message and the invitation of this beloved book.

Gospel of John:  Believe in Jesus—Get to know Him, choose Him for yourself, and live in union and fellowship with Him.

John Ch. 4  Sowing the word reaps a harvest of belief.

v.1-6 God may send you ...

The End Times

The news of world events can be scary. It’s full of “wars and rumors of wars” (Matt 24:6 NKJV) and other occurrences that will one day signal “the end of the age” (Matt 24:3 NKJV)—a time of great tribulation for many people. What are the signs of the “end,” what will happen when it comes, and what are we supposed to be doing in the meantime? Matthew Chapter 24 tells us. ...

Hebrews Ch. 2 Don’t neglect so great a salvation: Jesus is restoring us from a life of bondage to a life crowned with glory and honor.

v.1-4 Give the more earnest heed to what God has told us through His Son, lest you drift away from the truth you have heard.

v.5-8, 9 God wants mankind to have lives that are crowned with glory and honor—Jesus is indispensable to that plan.

v.9-10 God’s fitting plan for Jesus, as the Captain of our salvation, was for Him to taste death for everyone.

v.11-13 Now Jesus ,,,

Precious Promises

Nehemiah 9:7-8 tells us that God made a covenant (a binding agreement) with Abraham and his descendants—all those who believe (Rom 4:11) of every generation, including us today. Chapter 9 lists some of the blessings that God gave His people, and ends with the people reaffirming or refreshing their covenant with God. What can we learn (Rom 15:4) from this chapter about how God blesses those who believe in Him? In other words,

What does God covenant to do for His people?
v.8 give us a home with Him
v.8 perform all His words ...

Matthew Chapter 12

The book of Matthew has some of my favorite application. Chapter 12 helps us to understand Jesus’ ministry to us today.

Matthew Ch.12  Don’t be blind to, or bound from, the greatness of Jesus’ ministry.
                                             (blinded by legalism or Satan)
(bound by Satan, evil, refusing the truth, or lack of repentance)

v.1-13    Don’t be so legalistic, that you can’t be directed by Jesus to do good,
to be kind and helpful, to heal, to rescue, and to restore as whole.

v.14-21  Jesus’ ministry is greater than ...

Application, Application!! – Part 2

Here are the other two chapters of Philippians in outline form for reading, discussion groups, or teaching. Are they understandable by themselves or do they need a teacher to explain them?

Application, Application!!

When I started studying the Bible, I loved reading it. My problem was remembering what I had read, particularly a day or two later. So I started writing down statements to remind myself of what Scripture says about what God wants us to do and to know—“application.”

I had a statement for each paragraph, chapter, and book. Since I was particularly interested in ...
