Your Love Is Showing: Heroes of Hurricane Harvey

by Katy Kauffman

Two numbers show Harvey’s devastation and people’s desperation—20 trillion and 30,000.

Harvey’s rains dumped 20 trillion gallons of water on Houston, enough to furnish New York City with water for five years.1 NBC estimated that 30,000 people will be homeless,2 but now it sounds like more will be.

Here’s another number—1,000. Nick Sheridan and two other truck drivers put themselves in harm’s way to rescue over 1,000 people, using their big rigs as rescue “boats.” They voluntarily drove to Houston, helped each other navigate flooded streets and hidden gullies, and sought out victims of the flood waters.

Delighting in God’s Welcome

by Jeannie Waters

Required: a foot stool, a pillow, one glass of ice-cold lemonade, a plate of homemade oatmeal cookies, and a hug

My precious mother believed these items were required to help guests feel like family in her country home. Refusing a foot stool was futile as she thought, “You must be tired.” And the pillow? “Why, you’d be much more comfortable with a pillow at your back,” she would insist.

Crossing her threshold comforted the hearts of all who entered. Visitors experienced a sense of coming home, of stepping out of a hurry-scurry world where fighting for acceptance was commonplace. At Sadie’s, they felt instant love and appreciation.

The Girl with Hazel Eyes – A Guest Post by Beckie Lindsey

Katy here. Today I have the privilege of sharing with you an award-winning poem and the story behind it. Can you relate to the poem below? May your heart be blessed and your dreams renewed.

The Girl with Hazel Eyes

by Beckie Lindsey

Where has she gone? That young girl from so long ago.
The memory eludes me like a cloud covering over the sun.
She had dark hair and large hazel eyes.
Those eyes that saw the world as an adventure to be had.
A world that is exciting yet dangerously uncertain,
But — with courage — could be contained.

In the Footprints of Love

Love walked this earth so long ago.

A compassionate heart, a healing touch, powerful words.

He saw the needy and didn’t turn them away.

He called the broken and weary to come to Him.

Loved & Confident: A Book Review and Giveaway of "66 Ways God Loves You"

We’re all created with an ability to love and a desire to be loved, but many of us go through life wondering if we’re truly loved or loveable. Some of us head down a road seeking love and crash into a dead end. But there’s one Person we can count on to love us, no matter where we’ve been, what we’ve done, and who we are.

God—the Creator of all things, the heavenly Father who calls us to be His children—loves us. He loves us because it’s who He is. He has the greatest capacity to love, and He desires that we love Him in return. When we understand sincere, sacrificial love, we can better understand the character and nature of God. When we understand who God is, we know love better.

Door Post Verses: Love

by Katy Kauffman

It would be so helpful if the Bible simply stated: Love is …

But it doesn’t.

Understanding God’s love is a journey. Through Scripture and in everyday life. While the Bible may not define love like a dictionary, it’s the perfect manual to understand the love of God and to share it with others. The Bible is our road map for navigating this world with its harsh realities and darkness, with the light of God’s love and truth.

Love penetrates darkness, softens hard hearts, and lets us grasp the essence of our Creator. Love is precious. Love is strong. Love in its purest form is who God is. Love is. And when we allow love to warm our hearts and mold our character, we will fulfill life’s ultimate purpose—to love God with our whole selves and to love others as He loves us.

So just how does the Bible define love?

Love Is the Greatest

It seems to me that some teachers and speakers in the church today, are trying to push love off to one side. They’re trying to get love to recede into the background and bring some other issue to center stage.

But love is a superstar. It belongs at the center stage of life. Love is why God sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). Love is what God wants from us, and it’s how He wants us to relate to other people (Mark 12:30-31). Love is ...

Isaiah: Setting Things Right

Love is Christ’s Driving Force

In 2010, my family and I attended the International Christian Retail Show, where Christian book publishers … promote their new products to retailers. As writers, we wanted to see how the book promotion process worked.

Giant posters decorated the halls of the convention center like murals. One of them promoted The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Aslan the lion with his golden mane and piercing eyes dominated the center of the poster. His face ...
