Door Post Verses: Perseverance

by Leigh Powers

A black belt is just a white belt that doesn’t quit—at least that’s what my children’s tae kwon do instructor likes to say. But my children have taken it to heart. When they’re having trouble mastering a kick or remembering how to swing their nunchucks, my son and daughter both remind themselves not to give up and how far they’ve come already. So they keep at it—practicing blocks, hits, and kicks, perfecting their form, and coping with the bumps and bruises that come their way. It’ a long road toward their black belts, but they are developing perseverance as they work toward their goal.

Perseverance is an essential quality for success. Personal, athletic, career, and educational goals all require you to keep trying and work persistently in pursuit of your dreams. Any worthwhile goal requires effort and endurance. The ability to persevere by not giving up, continually choosing the right thing, and constantly marching forward even when the road gets hard helps us overcome obstacles as we pursue our goals.

Perseverance is essential for success, but it’s also essential in our Christian walk. Life is not always easy.
