Abide in My Love

This past weekend we enjoyed the 2019 Enrich Conference here in Georgia. My family hosted it, and we had such a good time talking about writing with other Bible study writers. We will be posting pictures on our Lighthouse Facebook page, and for now, I’d like to share this short poem with you, one that I wrote when I was seventeen years old.

How would you describe what it means to abide in the love of Jesus? I did my best to answer that question in this poem. Let each phrase sink into your heart. I’d like to hear your thoughts about John 15:9 in the comments below. Abide in His love. Always.

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love” (John 15:9 NKJV).

Abide where it’s safe.

Abide where you’re forgiven.

Abide where you can grow.

Abide with the One who loves you the best.

A Poem of Victory

by Katy Kauffman

My heart is full. I’ve just returned home after attending the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. This was my eleventh time to attend and second time to teach. It’s my home away from home, a lifeline each year. The refreshment of being with other writers and gaining new strength on the mountain is an event I cherish.

So today, in lieu of a Bible study devotion, I’d like to share with you a poem. Next month, I will continue our series of Sustaining Life’s Spiritual Victories. Guest bloggers will join me in the weeks to come as we talk about how to sustain a victory that we have won with God’s help. Visit “A Smart Heart” to see our last post in the series and a list of our devotions so far. Today’s poems is one of my favorites, and one I need to remember. I pray it blesses you.

Awake, Awake!

by Katy Kauffman @KatyKauffman28

Awake, awake!

Put on your strength, O Zion;

put on your beautiful garments,

 O Jerusalem, the holy city!

Isaiah 52:1a NKJV

Awake to light, awake to hope!

Awake to strength replacing weakness.

Awake to beauty displacing misery.

Are you ready for the onslaught of good that will come?

Of God rising, His wings drowning out the cries of hopelessness.

Of God fighting, His sword clashing with the lies and schemes of the enemy.

The Light in My Soul

by Katy Kauffman

Quiet fills the room where I sit and work and pray.

The world stands still, but I’m at a loss for what to say.

I know many hurt, God; they need someone like You.

Help them to hold on to what is good, lovely, and true.

I think about Your heart, Your love, Your plan, Your ways.

How You’re always with us in good and not so good days.

You see what we can’t—victory springing to life.

The peace that arrives when we let go of inner strife.

The Almighty: A Poem Based on Psalm 18

Why do I cower so much in the night

And depend on my failing wisdom and might?

My enemies may be too strong for me,

But my God is the powerful One, the Almighty.

I will cry out to Him when danger draws near.

I will call on His name when my heart beats in fear.

O God, rescue me from the onslaught of attacks.

Calm my heart and remind me of the facts—
