5 Bible Verses that Give Us Grace to Wait
In my heart, I knew it was right. One year I asked God what one word would be an appropriate theme for the year. “Wait” came to mind. I took it as a confirmation that I was doing the right thing by waiting on God for an answer to prayer, instead of forcing circumstances into what I wanted.
The next year, God gave me a new “w” word—work. Appropriate too.
As we wait on God, we can continue to do the work He has for us. It may be serving in the church, sharing the gospel, raising a family, contributing excellence at our jobs, or making a difference in a variety of ways. Having something to do helps us to wait better, but waiting can still be difficult or frustrating.
That’s when God’s sustaining grace kicks in. Grace is more than just God’s favor given to us at the point of our salvation; it’s God’s help every single day of our lives. “Grace” is both the desire and the ability to do His will.
The longer I wait for a dream to come true, the more grace I need. The more I pray for someone to be healed or for something good to happen, the more I lean on God. Our waiting periods can drive us to God, because He’s the only One who can step in and intervene in just the right way at just the right time.

When we wait on God, He gives us strength to wait and to do His will. He makes us to “soar,” overcoming challenges and weakness. He has good in store for us if we seek Him. He’s the God of hope—the God of good expectations—and therefore He’s capable of filling our lives with joy and peace while we trust Him. Then we won’t have a teaspoon of hope, but an overwhelming flood of great expectation.
