Heralds of Light and Love

If you have shared the truth in some way with another person, have you ever thought of yourself as a herald?

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. (2 Timothy 4:2 NKJV)

We may not all be preachers, but we can be heralds. The word preach means “to be a herald … to proclaim [something] … always with the suggestion of formality, gravity and an authority which must be listened to and obeyed.”¹ Heralds were bearers of important news or announcements.

The angels heralded the birth of the Savior, John the Baptist heralded the coming of the Savior, and we herald the gospel of the Savior. Part of our assignment, no matter what we do in ministry, is to herald the truth. We can pass on the truth that we know to others and share with them about our own experiences with God. We are His bearers of light and love to the world.
