5 Traits of Our Grace-Giving God

I love finding obscure but powerful verses tucked away in Scripture. They are just waiting for us to discover them and treasure them.

Two verses tucked away in 1 Chronicles show us five traits about God and what He does with them. Here is a prayer that King David said near the end of his life:

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all … In Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all” (1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NKJV).

Great, powerful, glorious, victorious, and majestic. This is why we’d want to go to God for anything and everything we need.

He’s great—great in love, in goodness, in wisdom, and in authority.

He’s powerful—stronger than any opposing force, powerful enough to conquer any enemy.

He’s glorious—His essence, the core of who He is, is so brilliant in its qualities. They have such weight that no one can compare to how perfect He is in love, how awe-inspiring He is in how He saves us, heals us, and set things right in our lives.

He’s victorious—He knows how to conquer each challenge we face. He can give us victory over the spiritual enemies that plague us like fear, worry, anger, negativity, and self-focus.

He’s majestic—He is regal in the strength of His love and the tenacity of His faithfulness. He sustains the universe and each soul that turns to Him for help. He holds evil at bay, and He is the perfect King, one that can help in any situation, love you through any hardship, and turn things for good in ways you never thought possible.

And He shares. In verse 12, it’s in His hand to give strength to all. He shares His power with us, so we can persevere and do His will for our lives. So we can fight the good fight, run our race, and keep the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). So we can be who He wants us to be and do all He wants us to do—to live for Him and love people and help them to know Him.

Strength to do His will and grace at all times in all ways for all good works (2 Corinthians 9:8). He gives us the desire and the ability to do His will. He’s the only One who can provide grace like that.

The God of perfect greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty loves us and enables us to have a life worth living and the strength to overcome the challenges we face.

What do you need strength for today? What prayer requests live in your heart for the people you love? Cry out to God for the grace that you or a friend needs. He can handle the biggest challenges, and He cares about the smallest concerns.

“In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul” (Psalm 138:3 NKJV).
