Honor People, But Be Wise
How can we respect and honor fellow believers in Christ in the wisest ways possible? Read Chapter 5 of 1 Timothy and then the application below.
Ch. 5 Honor people, but be wise.
v.1-2 Don’t sharply rebuke people for their errors or faults, but exhort them as family.
v.3-16 Honor true widows by making sure they are provided for, either by their families or by the church.
- v.4 Let the families of widows take care of them.
- v.5 True widows trust in God and continue in prayer.
- v.9-10 Determine whether widows qualify (to be supported by the church).
- v.14 Encourage younger widows to marry, have children, and manage the house.
- v.16 Let the church take care of widows who have no family.
v.17-18 Respect and support church leaders who do their ministry well, especially those who preach or teach God’s word.
v.19-20 Don’t receive an accusation against a church leader unless two or three witnesses confirm it, and if shown to be guilty, rebuke the person publicly for the good of the congregation.
v.21-25 Do nothing with partiality, don’t hastily put anyone into ministry, don’t get pulled into sin, keep yourself well, and seek out good people to put into ministry.
