Book of Ephesians: Grow up into oneness in Christ.

Chapter 1  A Cause for Celebration: The will of God is to bless you with oneness in Christ.

v.1-6      God’s goal and work is that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.

v.7-10    God’s will is to “gather together in one all things in Christ” (v.10).

v.11-14  God wanted to give an inheritance to those who trust in Christ, so He did, and He gave us the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of it.

v.15-19  God wants to give us a complete understanding of the joy of His calling, of the riches of our inheritance, and of the greatness of His power toward those who believe.

v.20-23  God linked us to Christ, who has all power, might, and dominion, forever.


OR  Ch. 1  See yourself from God’s perspective—identify with Christ.

v.1-6  See who you are in Christ.
v.1 saints
v.5 adopted as sons (children) by Christ to Himself
v.6 accepted in the Beloved (Christ)

v.7-19  See what you have in Christ.
v.7    redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins
v.7-8 abundant grace
v.8    all wisdom and prudence (understanding)
v.11  an inheritance
v.13-14 the Holy Spirit, the guarantee of our inheritance
v.17  the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God
v.18  the hope of God’s calling (for example, v.4 “that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love”)
v.18  the riches of an inheritance
v.19  the exceeding greatness of His power toward believers

v.20-23  See Christ’s exalted place with God, and our exalted (& surrendered) place in Him.
v.20 God raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at His right hand (the place of honor and strength).
v.21 Christ’s authority is far above all other authorities and powers, now and forever.
v.22 God put all things under Jesus’ authority and made Him Head of the church.
v.23 Believers are members of Christ’s “body.”
