1 John: You can be certain that you have eternal life when you are abiding in God, and He in you.

Chapter 2  Abide in the Son and in the Father.

v.1-2   Even though Jesus is the propitiation for our sins and our Advocate with the Father, don’t sin.

v.3-5   We know that we are abiding in Jesus, if we keep His commandments.

v.6      He who abides in Jesus ought to walk just as He walked.

v.7-11 Staying under the “transforming, governing power”1 of the light of God’s word, produces love for others.

v.12-14  Keep growing as a child of God: know that your sins are forgiven, know the Father, become strong enough to overcome the wicked one, and walk with Christ.

v.15-17  Don’t love the world and practice its lusts that are passing away, but love the Father, do His will, and abide forever.

v.18-23  You know from the Holy Spirit that Jesus is the Christ, so don’t be deceived by the lies of false teachers.

v.24-27  Don’t displace the truth that you heard from the beginning with something new and wrong, and you will abide in the Son and in the Father and have eternal life.

v.28-29  Abide in Jesus the righteous, by practicing righteousness.
