Definitions & Insights – I Will Give You Rest
by Katy Kauffman
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 KJV, emphasis mine)
Give … rest is one word, meaning “to cause or permit one to cease from any movement or labor in order to recover and collect his strength.”1
It also means to “refresh” and “to keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation.”2
Jesus said, Come unto Me, to the multitudes, and it still applies to us today. Do you need rest? Do you need time to collect your strength, to be refreshed, or to calm down and renew your patience and hope (expectation)? Come to Jesus! Seek Him in the midst of your day.
