Bits of Wisdom – Finish the Walls and Repair the Foundation

Let it be known to the king [Artaxerxes] that the Jews who came up from you have come to us at Jerusalem, and are building the rebellious and evil city, and are finishing its walls and repairing the foundations. (Ezra 4:12 KJV)

Finish the walls.

Finish building the things that protect God’s people, keep out the enemy, and fortify them against attack. Build the walls that promote peace and safety. Finish the things that define God’s people, give them an identity with Him and one another, and give them a sense of belonging.

Repair the foundation.

Your foundation – the origin, spring, source, fountainhead of all that you are

– shapes your initiatives, responses, and reflexes

– colors your thinking patterns, attitudes, and values

– determines your level of selfishness or selflessness

The “foundation” is the knowledge and practice of the truth as revealed by God in His word.

Don’t live your daily life on the foundation of past pain or failure.

Live on the foundation of God’s truth and who you are and what you can accomplish in Him.
