Help One Another as You Share the Truth of God

by Beebe Kauffman

How do you feel about other believers who have some prominence in the church? Do you treat them as beloved brothers and sisters, or as competitors?

In his third letter, John mentions three men—two he commended, and one he reproved. The details of these examples help us to know how to walk in truth and love toward others who serve God and the truth.

The chapter title and paragraph statements of 3 John answer the following questions.

1. How can we pray for other believers?

2. How should we feel when we hear that their lives reflect the truth?

3. How should we treat workers for the truth?

4. What practices toward them should we avoid?

Read 3 John in your Bible and then the following application.

3 John: Receive workers for the truth in a manner worthy of God.

v.1-2  Pray that believers may prosper in all things and be in good health, and that their souls may prosper.

v.3-4  Rejoice when you hear that brethren are walking in the truth.

v.5-8  Receive fellow workers for the truth, love and help them, and send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God.

v.9-14  Do not imitate evil by speaking malicious words about fellow workers and refusing to receive them into the church, but do good to them and uphold their good reputation.
