Lists – “One”: An Inward Living Union

I [Jesus] do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. (John 17:20-21 NKJV)

one – “an inward living union with [Christ] and the Father, and thus … [believers are] all one with each other; … [an] inward union of love and holiness, first with the Father and the Son, and then with one another”1

What does “oneness” with God and Jesus look like in daily life, according to the context of John Ch.17?

v.3   Knowing the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He sent to us

v.6   Keeping God’s word

v.8, 25 Believing that God sent Jesus

v.10 Glorifying Jesus in the world

v.11-12,15  Being kept by God while we are in the world

v.14 Being hated by the world

v.15 Being kept from the evil one

v.17 Being sanctified by the truth

v.18 Being sent into the world by Jesus

v.20 Bearing fruit in others who will believe

v.22 Bearing the glory which Jesus gave us

v.23 Being made perfect in one as a witness to the world that:

  • God sent Jesus
  • God loves believers as He loves Jesus

v.26 Having the love within us with which God loved Jesus
