Isaiah: Setting Things Right

Love is Christ’s Driving Force

In 2010, my family and I attended the International Christian Retail Show, where Christian book publishers … promote their new products to retailers. As writers, we wanted to see how the book promotion process worked.

Giant posters decorated the halls of the convention center like murals. One of them promoted The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Aslan the lion with his golden mane and piercing eyes dominated the center of the poster. His face ...

Holiness Is a Transformation of the Heart

True holiness has roots that reach down deeper than what we say and do. It reaches into our hearts—the treasure house of who we are, how we’re wired, and what we value. Holiness warms, enriches, and enlivens the heart with Godliness. It prompts us to think differently, to see more clearly ...

"What Does God Do in Our Lives?"

He rescues us. When we place our faith in God, He works to rescue our souls from famine, dryness, coldness, isolation, oppression, and wandering. Our Lord Jesus Christ Is Greater Than Any Enemy

In this final excerpt from my Bible study, 2 Timothy: Winning the Victory, I want to share with you the go-get’-em, no-holds-barred, let’s-overcome-the-obstacles-and-do-what-God-has-for-us passage. This paragraph comes from the final chapter, and compares our spiritual enemies, who may seem overwhelmingly strong at times, to our God who has almighty power.

“No matter how fierce the enemy seems—when fear cripples us, anger enrages us, or selfishness possesses us; when adversity crushes us, opposition hounds us, or temptation plagues us—God is greater. In our own strength, we may be no match for the spiritual forces fighting against us, but those forces are ...

A Person's Worth

A person’s worth is not summed up in what he or she can do for us. Neither is God’s.

Stress Relievers: Hold Your Soul Close to God

Life, circumstances, and some people can hold our souls close to harm—things that discourage us, ruin our self-image, entice us to take up bad attitudes or habits, or cause us to doubt what we know is true and good. When our souls are held close to harm for too long, attitudes can form that isolate us from other people such as “I don’t need anyone,” or “Don’t mess with me.” We can become angry or hopeless, convinced that things will never get better for us.

But there’s a solution. We can choose to hold our souls close to God. We can do it with prayer, Bible study, church attendance, spiritual songs, remembering Scripture, and so forth. In Him, we can find relief from burdens, confusion, sorrow, heaviness, uncertainty, and coldness. Close to God, we find ...
