Door Post Verses: Peace

by Adria Wilkins

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you.
II Thessalonians 3:16 NIV

Light filled the hospital room where our little boy, Blake, was getting ready to go home. He’d never return to our home in Texas again, with his Peter Rabbit-themed room. He was going to our heavenly home.

Blake, who was born with spina bifida and other complications, died in June 2001 at age three. As each day unfolded in his little life, we found out that he couldn’t breathe, eat, or swallow on his own, and he couldn’t talk. Fifteen years ago our son, Blake, took his last breath. The sky was blue with just the perfect amount of clouds that day. We wondered with each shallow breath that he took, if it would be his last. We told him, “Go home, Blake, it is okay, go home.” A peace filled the room—a peace beyond all understanding. ...

The Confession

In the stillness of the night You hear my cry

You know the battle in my soul

I give the fight all I have and try

To bear the rigorous toll

You embrace me in my weakest moment

You remind me of Your great love

In my daily predicament

I know I have help from up above

Breaking the Chains: Disarming Enslaving Thoughts

The mind is a constant battlefield. Satan knows that if he can influence us with negative thoughts, he can influence how we live. He can steal our peace, rob us of our impact for God’s kingdom, and send us into a tail spin of mental bondage and emotional turmoil.

Enslaving thoughts used to frighten me. As a teenager, I wanted to honor God in my mind, so when I heard bad words on TV or in movies, I was paranoid about remembering them later. Later in life, I allowed a certain way of thinking to dominate my thoughts, and I experienced a barrage of attacks from the enemy. I felt like there was no way out. I couldn’t escape my own mind, and although I knew God was powerful enough to free me, I couldn’t figure out what I needed to do.

But God was faithful.

In Safe Hands

I kept watch over my loved one all night. My family was in the hospital for ten days about a month ago. The first night there, I could only sleep for about thirty minutes in the hospital room recliner, and then it became someone else’s turn to attempt to sleep. I sat in a backless computer chair near the hospital bed and watched my loved one breathe in and out as he slept. I watched and prayed.

Overcoming Fear with Peace – A Guest Post by Carol A. Akin

God’s plan is that we do not live in fear, but rather enjoy His peace. In fact, I’ve heard many times that there are 365 times in the Bible that we are encouraged to fear not or do not fear. This leads me to a couple of key assumptions:

  1. God knows that humans are frail (after all He made us from dust) and are inclined to fear.
  2. We need constant reassurance that everything is going to be ok.
  3. He loves us and desires that we live in peace, free from fear.

Finding Peace

“The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29:11, NKJV

Peace is a beautiful word. I once pictured peace as gentle waves lapping onto a shore. Since I’ve seen a little more of life’s struggles, now I picture peace as a calm heart in the midst of a storm. I understand from experience that even though our circumstances aren’t trouble-free, we can have God’s peace on the inside. He does calm storms (Psalm 107:29). Either within or without. ...

Isaiah: Setting Things Right

Jesus—the Heart’s Delight   (Isaiah 4:2)

Jesus is beautiful, glorious, excellent, and appealing to those who take hold of Him by faith. Great good awaits those who turn to Him. Jesus sustains us through the storms of life and furnishes us with hope until they are over. He calms our anxieties with His peace. He drives away fear with His comforting presence. He resolves our helplessness with His strength and power. He soothes our guilt and regret with forgiveness. He warms our hearts with His unending love. Jesus is our ...

Gaining and Sustaining Peace

How do you gain peace and sustain it? Maybe if I lived on the beach and every morning I could watch the sunrise glisten on the waters, I would have peace. Or perhaps if I had no struggles or temptations, my heart would abide in peace. But the battle between good versus evil rages on, and no life on earth is free from struggles and temptations. Even the beach has its storms and hurricanes.

Jesus assured us that although we would have adversity in the world, we could have ...
