Special Series, Day 10: What is Jesus doing today?

Definitions & Insights

10. Jesus has important daily work with each citizen of His kingdom—He fits us to be citizens of a kingdom of love.

He [the Father] has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. (Colossians 1:13 NKJV)

Using definitions to understand what is meant here by “kingdom”:
kingdom – a realm, domain, sphere1
domain – a sphere of activity or influence2
sphere – a walk of life3
sphere – the place, range, or extent of action, existence, knowledge, experience, influence, etc.4

Therefore, a kingdom is a walk of life that is led and made possible by a king.

kingdom – a government or country headed by a king5
government – direction, control, rule, management6

Or, a kingdom is the realm of direction, control, rule, or management of a king.

Luke 17:21 (NKJV) The kingdom of God is within you.

Insights:
a. kingdom – a reality that exists within our hearts and minds that regulates our thoughts, feelings, and actions and brings them in line with what pleases God and serves His purposes

b. “reality” – This is how I think, feel, and act. This is what I value. This is who I am, what I want, and what satisfies my soul.

Since Colossians 1:13 tells us that believers have been conveyed … into the kingdom of the Son of His love, then love is to be our reality, and Christ is the King and the Mediator of it.

The reason that the Bible tells us to put off practicing certain detrimental things, is that they can forge a detrimental reality of soul within us and become an engrained way of life that is inconsistent with God’s kingdom of love.

Jesus fits us to be sound and contributing citizens of the kingdom of God’s love.
