15. Jesus is forever our High Priest.

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  (Hebrews 4:14 AKJV*)

… Jesus, made a high priest forever (Heb 6:20; also Heb 5:6, 7:17, 7:21)

What do priests do?

1. They have oversight of the Tabernacle.  (Numbers 4:16)

Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16)

You are the temple of the living God; as God has said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (2 Cor 6:16)

2. They teach the people to fear (deeply respect and esteem) the LORD. (2 Kings 17:28)

3. They settle matters of controversy. (Deuteronomy 17:8-11, Deut 21:5)

4. They encourage God’s people before battles with the enemy. (Deut 20:2-4)

5. They cleanse the temple. (2 Chronicles 29:16-17)

To you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. (Acts 3:26)

6. The high priest makes atonement for sin. (Leviticus 4:20, 16:30)

Our High Priest made a once-for-all atonement for sin.

By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God. (Heb 10:10-12)

7. A priest is a steward of the knowledge of God. (Malachi 2:6-7)

You have not so learned Christ; if so be that you have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus. (Ephesians 4:20-24)
