The Christmas Story: Jesus, Our Immanuel

In Isaiah Chapter 8, about 700 years before Jesus’ birth, God told Isaiah the prophet what to name his son. That name was a message from God to the people of Judah concerning His intention for them.

In the preceding chapter in Isaiah, God sent a message to mankind in the name of His own Son.

Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14 AKJV, emphasis mine)

Then, 700 years later, this was affirmed right before Jesus’ birth, the original Christmas Day:

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:23 AKJV, emphasis mine)

God’s message to everyone who will listen, is that He wants to be with us, through every bit of life. The joys, trials, surprises, heartaches, victories, failures, and everything else. Our God is forever faithful, and He makes His home in the hearts of every person who will place their faith in His only Son, Jesus Christ. God makes His permanent home in the hearts of believers.

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. (John 14:23 NKJV)

The Christian life is a personal story for each of us, of God with us.
